A Synthetic Heart is a total replacement of the recipient's heart. Effects vary by model: from stronger cardiac performance to the filtering and removal of environmental hazards. Heart replacements have been a medical procedure since long before the great apocalypse. The doctors that pioneered this technology long ago had no idea that today we would be using it in such an advanced and simpler way. During the remote implant process, the subject Runner is technically dead, but the body is fooled into essentially being frozen in the last instance of the real heart pumping by a patented and highly secret agent developed by BioTech. When this step is taken, the new heart is quickly reconstructed over the previous heart, then jump started by a one time use electric shock within the heart itself.
